Swimming

Swimming is a low-impact, full-body aquatic activity for recreation, fitness, or competition, utilizing strokes like freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. It promotes cardiovascular health, strength, and endurance while engaging major muscle groups. Key skills include proper breathing, floating, and rhythmic kicks.

Diving

Diving refers to both the sport of jumping into water (springboard/platform) and underwater activities, such as scuba diving (using breathing apparatus) or freediving (holding breath). Key types include competitive acrobatic diving, recreational scuba, and professional, commercial, or scientific underwater exploration. Safety is paramount, particularly in scuba where holding your breath is never allowed.

Water Polo

Water polo is a fast-paced, physical team sport played in deep water, combining elements of swimming, soccer, and basketball. Two teams of seven players (six field players, one goalkeeper) aim to score by throwing a ball into the opponent’s goal over four 8-minute quarters. Athletes must tread water, often using the "eggbeater" technique, as they are not allowed to touch the pool floor.

Open Water

Open water swimming involves swimming in natural bodies of water like lakes, rivers, or oceans, offering a challenging alternative to pool swimming that requires skills like sighting, drafting, and adapting to currents. Key techniques include bilateral breathing and faster stroke rates.
